Show your support or opposition or to bills assigned to an Illinois General Assembly Committee without traveling to Springfield.

In the House, electronic witness slips can be submitted up to the conclusion of the committee hearing. In the Senate, you have until the end of the day of the committee hearing’s scheduled date. Don’t let time run out! Zip-zip. Complete your witness slip ASAP.

Step 1 - Get Started

Click the button above.

> Select House or Senate in the menu to the left.

> Select Committee Hearings.

> Select the Today, Week and Month tabs to navigate to the Committee Hearing for the bill that you would like to support or oppose.

> Select Create Witness Slip for the bill number.

Step 2 - Identification

Fill out the Identification section with your information. For the Firm/business or agency and Title fields, write “self” unless you are authorized by a company or business to use their name.

Step 3 - Representation (optional)

Fill in only if you’re appearing on behalf of a group, organization or other entity. If you’re not authorized to appear on behalf of any group, leave this section blank or fill in N/A or “self”.

Step 4 - Position

Select your position on the legislative item. You may file as a proponent (in favor/support of) or an opponent (in opposition to/against) of the piece of legislation. If there is an amendment to the bill, you may need to select the amendment from the menu in this section.

Step 5 - Testimony

Select the testimony types that you will supply for the hearing. If you don’t intend to offer oral testimony or file a written statement, check the Record of Appearance Only box. This will allow your position on the piece of legislation to be known without having to physically appear.

Step 6 - CAPTCHA

Type what is displayed in the CAPTCHA box to prove that you’re a human.

Step 7 - Terms

Click box to accept ILGA Terms of Agreement.

Step 8 - Almost Done

Click Create Slip. Hooray! You did it. Way to go. Be sure to create an account so your info will autofill next time.
